Block with Precision: Keyword & Exact URL Rules

Choose exactly what you want to block. From a single distracting page to entire categories of content across the web.

What Are Precise URL Blocking Rules?

This feature gives you two powerful options to control how the extension identifies and blocks a site: "Contain" and "Exact". Instead of just blocking a whole domain, you can fine-tune your rules to fit your specific needs, giving you unparalleled flexibility.

  • Contain Keyword: This is a broad, powerful rule. The extension will block any URL that includes the specific word or phrase you enter. For example, adding `"gaming"` as a keyword will block `news.com/gaming`, `youtube.com/channel/gaming`, and `pro-gaming-reviews.com`. It's perfect for blocking topics and categories.
  • Exact URL: This is a surgical tool. It will only block the page that is a perfect match to the URL you enter. For example, blocking `twitter.com/notifications` will stop you from checking your alerts, but will still allow you to access the rest of Twitter.

Key Benefits

  • Ultimate Flexibility: Block a single distracting YouTube channel without blocking the entire site.
  • Block Entire Categories: Use the "Contain" rule to eliminate entire topics (like "politics" or "celebrity gossip") from your browsing.
  • Reduce False Positives: Use "Exact" to ensure you don't accidentally block important content on a domain that also hosts distractions.
  • Efficient Rulemaking: A single "Contain" rule can do the work of dozens of individual site blocks.

How to Use Precise Rules

  1. Open the Website Blocker settings and go to your "Block List".
  2. In the "Add a New Site" field, enter the URL or keyword you want to block.
  3. Select your rule: Choose either the "Contain" or "Exact" radio button.
  4. Choose your blocking type (Permanent or Scheduled) and click "Add to Block List".
