Close the Loophole: Block Websites in Incognito Mode

Ensure your blocking rules apply everywhere. A simple, one-time setting prevents you from bypassing your blocklist using a private browsing window.

What is Incognito Mode Blocking?

By default, for your privacy and security, Chrome does not allow extensions to run in Incognito (private) windows. This creates an easy loophole: if you want to get around your own rules, you can simply open a new Incognito window.

This feature allows you to close that loophole. By manually giving Website Blocker permission to run in Incognito mode, you ensure that your blocklist is active and enforced no matter which window you are using. This makes your commitment to focus inescapable and strengthens the effectiveness of all your other rules.

Key Benefits

  • Consistent Protection: Your rules work the same way in every window, every time.
  • No Easy Bypasses: Removes the most common method for avoiding your own productivity settings.
  • Strengthen Your Commitment: Makes your decision to block distractions a serious one.
  • Set It and Forget It: This is a one-time setup. Once enabled, you never have to think about it again.

How to Enable Incognito Blocking

You must enable this feature from your browser's extension settings, not from within the extension itself.

  1. Right-click the Website Blocker icon in your browser toolbar and select "Manage extension". (Alternatively, you can go to `chrome://extensions` in your URL bar).
  2. Find Website Blocker in your list of installed extensions.
  3. Look for a toggle switch labeled "Allow in Incognito".
  4. Turn this switch on. That's it! Your blocking rules will now apply in all Incognito windows.
